Old Powder Magazine
The Old Powder Magazine is the oldest public building in North or South Carolina.  In the late 1600's the Powder Magazine was crucial to storage of powder for defense of the city and continued to serve this purpose until the Revolutionary War.  Later it served as a printing house, a storage building and a livery stable.  Today it has been restored to its mid-nineteenth century appearange is is a National Historic Landmark site.
